I hope mods don’t delete this post. I”m posting this to offer a productive way to divert some of the negative feelings some of us having been having recently
If you’re on Twitter, you might have come across discussions in the past few days over Hobi’s letter in the Jack in the Box Hope Edition album. You’ve also seen the coordinated hate train happening towards Namjoon.
ARMY rightfully called out solos for hurting Hobi’s feelings with the trending hashtags, and they’ve also been reporting the hate posts for Joon on TT.
There was a lot of rage online over the JITB issue but at some point, the encouragement to stream on the first day of release was drowned out.
And the results showed in the streams. The 5 new tracks only got around 200k each. That’s really low for new tracks, even if they’re unpromoted and carried by Twitter ARMY. (My reference here would be Soundcloud releases and collabs.) The 15-track album got 5.8M streams in total. I’m a little heartbroken about the results, and I know we could do better, especially because there are plans to have him top the US Albums chart.
As for Joon, there are [plans to chart Still Life](https://twitter.com/7seventannies/status/1693133087171833989) since it carries a specific message about what is happening right now.
So, as we continue to support Layover and recent releases, let’s use this week to also support our 94z. Stream and buy their music, because that’s the best way we can show them our appreciation and love. Like the tannies, let’s turn the negative into positive. And let’s spread more encouragement about these 2 projects, too. 💜
Edit: corrected album stream number

I am an ARMY who was largely unaware of these issues until I saw them here on Reddit. The first one about Hobi’s album was through the discussion following the translation of his “Thanks” notes and the second issue about Namjoon was something I learned through this post. Not sure what brought this about but it made me glad that I’m not part of communities on other social media sites that promote this kind of negativity. Reddit, specifically r/bts7, is really a safe space.
As for streaming, I get that that’s some how fans show their support but personally, it’s not how I show mine. It reminds me too much of a few my classmates back in grad school who made a chart of their grades for each semester in order to reach their target summa, magna or cum laude titles when we graduated. They would stress over what they would do to pull their grades up if they didn’t hit their target grade for one subject. On the other hand, I was simply happy with passing all my subjects for the semester and moving onto the next sem until I got to our graduation.
If that grade charting was what gave my classmates happiness then that’s fine but it would have been extremely annoying if they forced everyone around them to act the same way they regarded their grades and use “it’s for the school’s prestige” (as in getting a high placement in the university rankings) as the reason. After all, school was not just about getting grades and competing with other people. Other students have other goals for going to school and different things that make them happy.
