I think it’s great. ARMY have always been so awesome about pulling together for charities. Even when I knew next to nothing about BTS, I had heard of ARMY doing things like this.
Breast cancer is an issue near and dear to me as it has affected numerous family members (my mom, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousins) and friends. Anything that can help toward better treatments and a cure is good to me.
This is one of the reasons I became ARMY in the first place. Of course the music and the members, but I recall when I first started looking into ARMY social media there was always some philanthropy going on, usually multiple donation goals for various charities the members support, and it really surprised me coming from other (non kpop) fandoms where this wasn’t the norm. We can always trust that ARMYs are living up to the charitable standard BTS themselves set, and it makes ARMY so so special.

What controversy?
army are one of the kindest fandoms. the people finding a problem with this is insane!!
The donations are great, I’d hope people are donating anyway not just because of this bullshit “controversy” that only exists on Twitter amongst perpetually online haters – do we need to bring more attention to it here?
I love that army are hanging on to our identity as a fandom that cares about good causes. (Hanging on by a string perhaps.) I think the event was obviously mismanaged and I don’t blame people affected by breast cancer for expressing their disappointment.
I will say I am a little disappointed that the BTS members who were there haven’t made a statement. Even if they aren’t at fault, it would be a good gesture.
I don’t know if the members appreciate how much they are in danger of appearing to be losing touch with the values of the fandom.
Hmm. Sounds like J-Hope, RM, and V have brought awareness to breast cancer charities.
Times like these reinforce why ARMY is the best fandom.
Honestly, I had no idea the event was for breast cancer, but I also believe that was on the organizers. There were so many ways W could have creatively and respectfully emphasized the “charity” portion of the event. That was not the responsibility of the attendees.
I will not donate to the Komen Foundation for very good reasons, but I will make a donation to the American Cancer Society on behalf of Chicago ARMY.
